Paper 1: Accuracy, Speed, and Core Techniques

Paper 1 focuses on structured questions that test core understanding, accuracy, and speed. Many students lose marks due to careless mistakes, weak foundational skills, or difficulty applying the correct method under time pressure.

To improve, students need:

• Strong mastery of core concepts

• Regular practice of question techniques and methods

• Ability to apply appropriate strategies for different question types

• Time management skills to complete the paper within the given duration

 

Consistent practice with proper guidance helps students improve accuracy, develop effective techniques, and complete the paper confidently within the time limit.

Paper 2: Problem Solving Using Models and Heuristics

Paper 2 focuses on structured problem-solving questions that require students to read carefully, understand the problem, and select the correct method to solve it.

Students are required to:

• Read and understand the question accurately

• Identify the type of question to determine the correct approach

• Use model drawing to visualise and organise information

• Apply heuristic methods such as working backwards, assumption method, and pattern recognition

 

Many students struggle not because they lack knowledge, but because they are unsure how to start the question or which method to use.

With structured practice and guided teaching, students can learn how to break down questions step by step, apply the correct strategies, and solve problems more confidently and effectively.

Paper 1: Concept Understanding and MCQ Skills

Paper 1 tests students’ understanding of key Science concepts through multiple-choice questions. Students often lose marks due to unclear understanding or confusion between similar concepts.

To improve, students should use the CER method (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning):

1. Claim: State the answer clearly

2. Evidence: Use information from the question or experiment

3. Reasoning: Explain using scientific concepts

 

Students should also:

• Use correct scientific keywords

• Write in complete sentences

• Link ideas clearly and logically

 

With consistent practice and structured guidance, students can improve their ability to express answers clearly and score better in open-ended questions.
 

Paper 1: Situational Writing & Continuous Writing

Paper 1 focuses on students’ ability to express ideas clearly and accurately in writing.

​

Situational Writing requires students to write a short functional piece based on a given situation, using appropriate tone, format, and content.

Continuous Writing (Composition) requires students to develop and organise ideas into a well-structured story or narrative.

​

Many students struggle with generating ideas, organising their writing, and using accurate language. With structured guidance and regular practice, students can improve clarity, vocabulary use, and overall writing quality.

Paper 2: Language Use & Comprehension

​

Paper 2 focuses on students’ understanding and application of the English language.

​

It includes grammar, vocabulary, cloze passage, synthesis and transformation, and comprehension.

​

Students often lose marks due to weak grammar foundation, misunderstanding of passages, or unclear answering techniques. With consistent practice and guided learning, students can improve accuracy and comprehension skills.
